For the first time ever, AREV brought together members of the permanent representations of several European regions in Brussels for a meeting with Mauro Poinelli, head of unit at DG Agri (wine and spirits). The aim was to strengthen ties between the various teams, get to know each other better and exchange views on subjects of common interest to the wine industry.
Hosted by the Grand Est region (many thanks to the Grand Est teams for their welcome), we spent over two and a half hours discussing the major issues of the day: the future CAP and its budget, as well as issues more specific to the wine industry, such as labeling, the “wine package”, alcoholic products and the state of customs discussions between Europe and the United States.
The participants praised Mauro Poinelli’s clear, precise and cordial approach to the subject, which he handled with great availability and kindness.
The meeting continued with a presentation by Yves Madre from Farm Europe (a Brussels-based think tank), who outlined the difficulties and constraints involved in drawing up the new CAP budget. See you on July 16, when the Commission is due to present its new budget format.
