AREV Congress 2019: support and legitimacy strengthened

PRESS RELEASE

HORTA (AZORES), June 13, 2019 – AREV members travelled to Horta, on faial Island, Azores, to hold their annual congress from June 11 to 13, 2019.

The President of the AREV, Emiliano Garcia-Page Sanchez (Castilla-La Mancha), gave a rousing speech on the wine civilization, illustrating the missions of the AREV: defending and promoting the shared interests of European wine regions.

The XXVI plenary session was an opportunity for the German-speaking regions to reaffirm their unwavering support for the AREV.

Participants devoted their working sessions to discuss current topics: CAP reform, winemaking techniques, resistant grape varieties, labelling, artificial intelligence… These are all useful levers to root the added value of wine in our regions.

A reflection has been opened to consider a new way of operating the AREV.

The AREV, composed of politicians elected by universal suffrage and representatives of professional organizations, has a statutory and historical legitimacy.

A legitimacy recognized and underlined by the presence and the words made during this congress by distinguished speakers: Pau Roca Blasco, the new Director General of the OIV, Raimondo Serra (European Commission) or Yves Madre (Farm Europe) were able to speak before the members of the AREV.

The delegates were also able to discover or rediscover the treasures, especially wine, of the Azores region, in particular the unique vineyard of the island of Pico, inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List.

The AREV and its members would like to thank the local organizers in particular for the quality of the organization of this 2019 congress.
